Smoking in the alley

It has been quite a while since my last photoshoot. I would really love to try something new for a change. Hiring a model would be a great idea but I just couldn't come up with a good theme for the shot. I've been cracking my head thinking of a suitable theme and location for the next photoshoot.

Been discussing with a few friends regarding the theme and we just don't have the idea on what to shoot. Besides, we still need to find a suitable model to do the photoshoot and they ain't going to be cheap for a couple of hour photo session. Too much restrictions even for the freelancer models in Kuala Lumpur nowadays.

Anyway, to cut it short. I've been fooling around with the idea of fabricating a scene where the subject is standing in an alley and the scene will be shot with a perspective angle. After much thinking and without much time and money to be spent. I invited my faithful model, he's a 12 inches tall figurine to do the job. Here i used a background photo of an alley and posing the model with his right hand holding a cigarette taking a puff. You can refer to the photo below.

Here I used my ring flash as the main light. It was set to 1/16 power and placed really close to the model thus creating a softer light.  Since he's wearing black color clothing, I had to use the light to create specular highlights on his clothes. After a couple of shots, I nailed it at ISO 100, f/5.6 and the result is good. Carefully I removed the original background which was my while reflector and place it on the top layer of the back alley photo.

I used a small piece of white paper and rolled it into something that reassemble a cigarette and created the smokes around it. After blending the model into the scene, I added vignette to the shot creating a more dramatic mood to the final touch.

Mid Valley photography group meet up

First of all, I would like to thank those who came for the meetup yesterday. It was an impromptu meetup but it was sure fun. Actually after the meetup yesterday I would like to organize a monthly meetup for the group so that we could share our knowledge and skill set on photography.

I think that this is very benificial to the group as some of us could use this opportunity to ask questions and get the answers to the skill and techniques that they have yet to acquire. Some of the meetup would be on modelshooting and then after that will be a photoshop post processing session where we could review the shots and on photoshop techniques.

Hopefully we will be able to do this more often and there will be a lot of planning on this matter to make it a success to our group.
